Bruce Gately (PanAm 1973 - 1991)

F I live in Montmartre, so when I go out, it usually is in the neighborhood.

F My favorite restaurants are:

ó  Le Maquis (closed Sunday), 69 rue Caulaincourt, Paris 95018. Téléphone: 01 42 59 76 07. French food; reasonable prices; and, you must reserve ahead. Le Maquis means the underbrush, which was how that area of Montmartre used to be known. Le Maquis also was the code name for the resistance during WWII.

ó  Le Perroquet Vert, 7 rue Cavallotti, 75018 Paris. Téléphone: 01 45 22 49 16. Visit the restaurant's website by clicking on this link: ó Restaurant La Terrass is located in the Hotel Terrass, an ex-Pan Am layover hotel, 12, rue Joseph de Maistre, Paris 75018. Téléphone: 01 44 92 34 00. The restaurant, with beautiful views of Montmarte and Paris, is being redone by the Alain Ducasse Group and will be completed in September 2005. It should be a top restaurant.

F My favorite museums are:

ó  The Musée Jacquemart-André,158, boulevard Haussmann 75008 Paris, France. Téléphone: 01 45 62 11 59. Click on this link for more information: ó The Musée Nissim de Camondo, 63, rue de Monceau, 75017 Paris. Téléphone: 01 53 89 06 40. M° Villiers (lignes 2 et 3), M° Monceau (ligne 2). (Near the Parc Monceau.) The museum houses objects, furniture and artworks, all of outstanding quality. They vividly convey one man’s passion at the beginning of the 20th century for the finest achievements of the past. The recent restoration of the kitchens and service areas means that visitors now can gain a more intimate sense of the workings of a private mansion in the early years of the 20th century. ó  Many of the impressionists paintings in the Musée D'Orsay were donated by Isaac Camondo, the brother of Moïse Camondo, the creator of this museum. The remaining members of the Camondo family were sent to their deaths in the Nazi camps just before Paris was liberated by the Allies.

F Shopping.

ó  For the ladies who want to buy a nice gift for the men in their lives, don't miss going to Brummel, the famous men's shop in the au Printemps department store. You will find in your map gifted to us by Printemps, plus a 10% discount card.

ó  Chez Georges. 1, rue du Mail, 75002 Paris. Téléphone: 01 45 74 31 00. French. ó Gallopin. 40, rue Notre-Dame des Victoires, 75002 Paris. Téléphone: 01 42 36 45 38. Menus from 14 - 35 €; Carte from 23 - 40 €. French.

F Summer Vacations: We have spent summer vacations with our girls in Cap Ferret near Bordeaux. It is a great place for swimming in the ocean or the bayside. We enjoyed this area for meeting with friends and enjoying the famous "les huitres" from this area. Another favorite place for us is Megève in the Alps. It is a beautiful village with lovely chalets covered with flowers... what we most like is hiking with friends and, of course, enjoying picnics in the mountains with wonderful views of Mont Blanc.
